Aloha, I am a USCG 50 ton Master with sailing and towing auxiliary credentials and over 40000 NM sailing the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans and for the last two years the Mediterranean seas. I was a race sailor for decades participating in some of the worlds biggest international ocean races from Transpac to Newport to Bermuda. I have participated in many charter regattas including Golden Rock Regatta, Heinekin Cup and Antigua race week. I have spent the last two years sailing a 58 ft S&S semi-custom Northwind sailboat throughout the Med as a commercial captain. I prefer small private charters of up to 6 people where the tempo is more relaxed and focused on taking a moment to get to know an anchorage, port and/or seascape.
My charters start as most do with a pleasant introduction and a few stories and end with a new life experience and a new friend for all. I have done fantastic personal charters with professional climbers around the entire Island of Mejorca to groups from Barcelona to Italy. Or the large group charters in the Caribbean with up to 10 aboard all using the video space in a boisterous charge to download & dash before the sundowner and topside dinner in the warm breezes that don’t chill the golden colored skin of the new sailors.
As a PhD scientist I enjoy the physics of sailing and the math of navigation and the joy of sharing this with all interested individuals. The fine details of my chemistry degree and years of cooking aboard ships makes for recommending an interesting mix of food and wine pairing on sustainable local sourced ingredients (when possible). With years of experience , local experts and lots of reading, I try to find the best anchorages for above and below water experiences.
